In the tiny town of Sterlington, Louisiana, with a population of about 1,500 or so, a weekend traffic stop led to the apprehension of a Bastrop, Louisiana resident who was wanted on a felony charge in Nevada. Just goes to show what a small world we live in and that nobody can run from their mistakes for very long.
Sterlington Police Chief Barry Bonner said that on Sunday night, Cpl. Jacob Greer stopped a vehicle traveling southbound on U.S. 165 because the vehicle had a headlight out. During the traffic stop, Greer ran a background check on the driver via the Thinkstream database network.
The background check showed the driver, Gerald J. Morgan, 36, was wanted as a fugitive from justice warrant issued out of Las Vegas on a charge of committing lewd acts with a person under the age of 14 years old. Bonner said the Sterlington PD contacted the Louisiana State Police and confirmed that Morgan would be extradited back to Nevada.
Morgan was booked into the Ouachita Parish Correctional Center on the warrant and one charge of improper equipment, where he is currently awaiting extradition.
Thinkstream is currently operating the Louisiana Civil and Criminal Information Network which is considered to be the largest network of its kind in the nation. Basically, it brings together every kind of record from scattered sources and is essentially a large network. This simplifies background checks, criminal records searches, and pretty much every other type of records search that government personnel need to run.
