Criminal Background Check On Taxi Service Owner Reveals Undisclosed Offenses

A Chattanooga, Tennessee police officer is under investigation after a review by the city auditor found he violated procedures in his role as inspector for the Transportation Board, officials said.

The investigation began Monday when City Auditor Stan Sewell completed a special review of the seven-member Transportation Board and its inspector, Officer Hedrick. Mr. Sewell said he launched the investigation after City Council Chairman Jack Benson asked him to do so.

A review of other cab-company records shows instances in which city codes were violated. One cab-company owner pleaded guilty to a 2006 charge of possessing a “gambling device or record” and was charged with carrying or possessing a weapon. The next year, he did not fill out the criminal-offense section of the application, but the document was handed to the board for approval, records show.
