Background Check Question and Answer

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010

Q: My mother has been dating her boyfriend for three years. I just found out she pays for everything, and that worries me. How can I run a background check on him?

A: There are many areas to search when checking someone’s background. Criminal records are available to the public, and commercial and financial databases can have information. Note that these may charge a small fee.

In all cases, be sure you double-check that you have the right person. It is easy to get wrong information, especially when searching common names. You don’t want to make false accusations. Visit BestBackgroundCheck.org for links to sites for conducting background checks.

Even Santa Claus Has a Background Check

Monday, November 29th, 2010

santa clauses are subject to due diligence background checks to ensure safetyNew York - William Noir crept toward the giant elf wearing the loud red suit and sporting a long, white beard.

William’s mouth was wide open, his eyes even wider, as he got closer and closer to Kriss Kringle’s throne in Santa’s Winter Wonderland Retreat at Colonie Center, New York. Santa has to know how to handle unusual, and sometimes inappropriate, Christmas requests from the little ones who find a place on his knee.

Colonie Center Santa is one of the thousands of Santa Claus’ helpers around the globe. You can also see Santa Claus locally at the 14th annualCapital Holiday Lights in the Park. And, if you want to go a little farther, you can experience Father Christmas in all his splendor at Santa’s Workshop at the North Pole (near Lake Placid). In case you haven’t caught it, New York is where Santa hangs out.

In days gone by, it seemed anyone could be Santa Claus. Those innocent days have disappeared faster than a bag of Santa’s magic dust. If you want to play a mall Santa, be prepared for intense, due diligent background check investigation.

Colonie Center relies on Cherry Hill Photo Enterprises of New Jersey. That company has been placing Santa Clauses in the United States and Canada for 50 years. That’s an impressive track record.

“Everyone is so much more sensitive about touching and proper behavior around children,” said Bob Reiss, who owned Santa Workshop from 1964-2002. Reiss said he never had to fire a Santa Claus for improper behavior. The Capital Holiday Lights in the Park has its own Santa and, for the last 10 years, the job has gone to 54-year-old Mel Diegel, who is married with two children.

Sherry Rose, the office manager of the Police Athletic League, which sponsors Holiday Lights in the Park, said background checks are done on Santa through LexisNexis. Though Santa does sometimes have problems with children’s Christmas lists.

Diegel, who works for the state comptroller’s office, said he has had some odd requests from children. “It’s the greatest thing in the world to be Santa Claus,” said Santa, who refused to give his real name. William scrambled up to his lap and almost disappeared into Santa’s girth. Santa smiled at his young guest.

Service Takes Aim at Frustrated Online Daters

WEST CHESTER, Pa., Nov. 11, 2010 /PRNewswire/ – Barb Gunselman, successful matchmaker and entrepreneur, wants to take dating in a new direction — true north and offline. Today, True North Matchmaking Services (www.findmytruenorth.com) announces its entry into the professional matchmaking arena in Greater Philadelphia with the goal of finding and setting up sophisticated and professional singles using a more personal and safe approach than other services, including a private investigator background check.

“In the current climate of cyber-driven impersonal dating, it makes it difficult to find — and too easy to overlook — the right person,” says Barb Gunselman, managing director of True North. “True North is for the person who is tired of online dating but doesn’t want a ‘Millionaire Matchmaker’ type experience,” says Gunselman, referring to the television series where a matchmaker arranges dates for wealthy men seeking attractive partners.

Gunselman believes successful relationships are built on equality, respect and honesty. Less expensive than other high-end matchmaking services in the area that typically charge men higher fees than women, True North matches couples based on shared interests and goals, rather than looks and financial status.

“Online profiles are almost entirely based on the superficial, which can change overnight,” said Gunselman.  ”I match people based on what’s real and unchanged over time: common interests, values and personality.”

True North is the vision of Gunselman who previously ran a prominent high-end matchmaking service, and Al Schuster, president and owner of True North and Polaris Business Services, LLC.

“From a business-perspective, the timing could not be better to launch this type of service in the Philadelphia region,” says Schuster. “People are too busy, budget-conscience and skeptical about relying on Web or cost-prohibitive dating services to meet their match.”

About Barb Gunselman:

A mother of four, matchmaker, breast cancer survivor, entrepreneur, and certified lifestyle consultant, Gunselman wears many hats. But it was a bandana that sparked her entrepreneurial spirit when she was bald from chemotherapy and radiation treatments for breast cancer.  Gunselman decided to forgo wigs and scarves and instead wore self-designed Swarovski crystal-decorated bandanas — Bella Bandanas was born. Now Gunselman sells the popular bandanas online and in her downtown West Chester store, Bling It On!

“Nothing is scary once you’ve had cancer.”  Surviving has made Barb pursue her passions, including matchmaking, with no fear of trying.

About True North Matchmaking:

True North Matchmaking Service finds and matches sophisticated and professional singles using a more personal and safe approach than other dating services.  Experienced matchmaker, Barb Gunselman, has matched more than 300 people in her career, many leading to marriage.  Her approach is to connect individuals based on shared interests and goals rather than looks and financial status.  Each client undergoes a screening process including an in-depth interview and background check by a private investigator. True North strives to take the work out dating, and has six locations throughout the Greater Philadelphia area for added convenience.

If you would like to give online dating a try, give Chemistry.com a shot. They are legitimate and safe and are one of the most popular online dating sites available.

The Best Background Check Service and Finding Nirvana

Tuesday, November 9th, 2010
finding the best background check service can be a daunting task

Copyright © bradfitzpatrick.com

By now it seems that whenever you search for the best background check service, the internet is full of the same rehashed garbage about how important it is to ensure you have good service, blah, blah, blah. I have been in the game for over 2 years and have read those lines so many times I get sick whenever I visit another website dedicated to the subject.

Regardless, finding the best background check service on the web is a daunting task given the thousands of options. So, let me try and give the whole thing a slightly different spin that might keep you interested. As stated, I have been in the industry for quite some time. As a “veteran” of this part of the internet, I can promise you that you will never be able to dig deep enough to uncover all the crap that is out here.

In reality, there are very few independent information services on the Internet. There are even fewer that are well known, that will provide you with any kind of professional service or customer support. The reason being that most public records are actually bought from data mining companies, packaged and resold to you. Love it or hate it, you can either spend $40 or go and try to find the information yourself. For now, that’s the way the system works.

When looking for the best background check service, beware that you don’t get blindsided by glitzy websites and “you’ll find anything on anyone” promises. I have been there, done that, know what it’s like. You will end up with a $60.00 hole in your wallet and more stress than ever. Many services exist for the sole purpose of making a buck, and a dash for the bank. They don’t care how accurate the information is, or how up-to-date.

If you really want the best background check service, you will have to spend time and money looking for the option that best suits your needs. These services can cost anywhere from $5.00 to $500.00; more in some cases. Keep in mind that if you pay a very low price, you will get what you paid for, and that isn’t much. I have done my time, 2 years that is, and know which services work.

There are a few steps you can take if you don’t want to use the background check services I recommend.

  • Make sure the company is endorsed by an outside source, or even a few. This provides validation, and shows that people are actually using it for real needs. Endorsement has a few definitions: The company might have a review from a legitimate 3rd party or be featured on a reputable source. This could take a while.
  • Be sure that you are given some kind of satisfaction guarantee in case the service isn’t up-to-snuff. A guarantee signifies they are confident in their product, and will help put you at ease. Problem is, even the best services are greasy on this issue. Just make sure you know exactly what you are paying for.
  • Make sure they are not going to sell, or give away, your personal information. This is of utmost importance. If your contact information gets into the wrong hands, you will get blasted with spam, and might even suffer identity theft.
  • And of course they should have customer service that is reachable. If a company has customer service, that means they are paying someone to keep you happy. Lately, this has become a huge issue and the bigger companies are putting far more effort into ensuring customer satisfaction.

Keeping the above points in mind, you should be able to acquire an online background check that will deliver some of the most comprehensive information you have access to. However, don’t forget that all online background check services have a margin of error and that they will not always locate the information you are looking for.

Get started with the BBGC tested background check services, otherwise proceed to Google, Yahoo, or Bing and get started with your own search for nirvana.
